expanding the possibilities for IT Professionals through integrated professional and personal development

frustrations in the workplaceI had a wonderful exchange with one of my colleagues a few days ago. He was exhausted. He was sharing his frustration - of how others don't do it as well as he does, how management don't care about doing it properly - just get it done and how a Sales team had sold a solution that could not be delivered. Yes he did have a bit to say!

This exchanged prompted me to ponder. My experience is quite different. So what do we have to let go to experience a far more flowing, harmonious workplace?

Release UrgencyUrgency is almost a state of being in this industry. Many workplaces value urgency. The perception is one of action. A focus on doing. While taking action is important, urgency often results in doing without consideration.

Urgency takes us out of the moment. When we are urgent our attention is rarely on this moment. It is either on that which has passed, or focused in the future. Rarely here and now. That means we can miss important feedback that might be indicating challenges ahead. We can miss that signal indicating a slight course correction is required. That creates unexpected results and more urgency.

man on a ledgeI had the opportunity to attend Cloud Camp in Perth, Western Australia yesterday. It was a great introduction to the 'un-conference' format and proved to be a wonderful opportunity to discuss many of the key issues the move towards Cloud Computing is presenting to the IT community.

One issue discussed was the potential impact to the IT Professional.
